Rutger Hauer, the rugged Dutch actor who played Roy Batty in Blade Runner, has died age 75.

His family has announced the actor had passed away in the Netherlands after a short illness. Born in 1944, he appeared in over 170 Dutch and International movies. His role as Batty, the replicant who delivers the iconic “Tears In Rain” monologue in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, remains his most appreciated performance on the big screen.

His many TV credits include roles in Smallville, True Blood, as well as the miniseries A Christmas Carol, based on Charles Dickens’s classic tale, which is scheduled to air this December.
