Congratulations Rio de Janeiro!
Already there is talk of conspiracy behind the IOC's selection for the 2016 Olympics. Personally, I find it very refreshing that Obama got a big ego check. I guess he doesn't carry as much clout as he and the mainstream media thought. When the commentators would come up for air while slobbing Obama's knob they assured everyone that it was pretty much a done deal. After all, Obama "gave such a compelling speech" and Ms Obama tugged at everyone's heartstrings with her very touching speech. I get all misty just thinking about it. Not to mention, he is Obama, the biggest star in the universe. Whenever he talks, the whole world listens.
This was the first time a sitting president has tried to use his office in this manner to influence the IOC. You can't blame him though. It would have been a great opportunity for him to line the pockets of his chronies in Chicago. And, somehow, I think he stood to benefit from it as well.
I know, I should be upset. Having the Olympics in Chicago would have helped the city financially, created jobs, boosted Obama's low self-esteem, blah, blah, blah. I just can't help feeling elated seeing people realize that maybe the entire world isn't in love with the president. Not only was Chicago not selected, it was the first city eliminated. How's that humble pie taste Mr. Obama?
I'm wondering how long it will take for Jimmy Carter to call the IOC racist because they rejected Obama's proposal. Maybe Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton will call for a boycott.
