Couriers vs. Cabbies
Not that most of you care but.....
I am a bike courier from Canada (Toronto, Ontario) and I recently participated in the CMWC - XVI (16 for those who didn't get past grade 3), and I must say, seeing people from other countries (Australia, U.S.A., China, Japan, Germany, New Zealand, and a few from Brazil) I must say I am impressed with how many people love their job, and hate cabbies at the same time!
Now to my point:
Cabbies are a threat to all of us. Whether it be if you bike ride, rollerblade/skate, skateboard, or just happen to be walking too close to the sidewalk. I recently got 5 stitches on my forehead above my left eye because a cabbie decided it would be fun just to pull into my lane, speed up, then stop completely! As a result of his sudden stop, me going full speed on my fixed gear bike, I pitched over my handlebars and faceplanted the sidewalk...The cabbie didn't even glance back or stop, and sped away, leaving me there in a puddle of my own blood. If it wasn't for other cyclists, I would have been out for a couple hours. Cars kept on zoomking by as if nothing had happened, none of them stopping to see if I was okay.
As a result of this, I am urging more people everyday to be more road aware and wear helmets if you are biking, blading, or boarding. Safety always comes first...and it just might save your life
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
