Let me start by saying this is not about pro-life or pro-choice. Well, I guess it kind of is but not in a fanatical kind of way. I'd like to discuss something I read and get some opinions.

Back in 2002 a 22 year old woman named Tanya was ten weeks pregnant and wanted to get an abortion. Her former boyfriend, John, 27 years old, wanted her to carry the baby to term and let him have custody of the child. John sought and was granted a temporary injunction barring the abortion. A common pleas judge dissolved the injunction and dismissed the lawsuit. Hours later, Tanya reportedly suffered a miscarriage. At that point, it no longer mattered.

Discussion:

Is it unconscionable that a man could force a woman to carry his baby to term instead of getting an abortion? Obviously, the law says he can't; I'm saying what if he could. What about the man's claim to the unborn baby? What about the man's right to decide if he wants to be a father? Laws supporting women's right to choose pretty much make anything the man has to say about the subject irrelevant. Don't you think?

I'd like to get some opinions. I'm of the opinion that it takes two people to make a baby and it takes two people to determine the fate of that baby. If abortion is the decision then it should be mutual. If the woman wants the baby but the man doesn't then he should have considered that before he had sex. If a man becomes a father he needs to do the right thing and 'man up' to his responsibilities. If the man wants the baby but the woman doesn't, it seems he is at her mercy. Obviously, she should have considered the consequences before having sex but she still get the final say.
