How Did You Get Hooked?
This is the first blog I've ever written like this, but maybe it's just because I'm in a sentimental mood.
Lately, and more frequently I might add, there has been a flood of bitch blogs about how crappy the recent features are.
This is not one of those blogs.
Like a lot of us I've been coming here for years and instead of bitching, I want to talk about the old media, and more specifically... what was it about this site that originally made you want to keep coming back?
Memes usually don't have a long shelf-life, and the bigger the meme the faster it becomes un-funny. Think Chuck Norris jokes or Tay Zonday. But the funniest video I think I ever saw on this site several years ago will always be funny to me, and it was nowhere to be found on the site today when I searched for it. I uploaded it for the sake of this blog, and if it's already on the site, please forgive me for my duplicate media sins.
The video that got me hooked to eBaums was the very first piece of media I ever watched on the site. I discovered this site sometime around 2001, or maybe 2002 at the latest. I think I was a Sophomore in college, and I was drinking in between classes at my friend Jeff's house which was on the edge of campus.
We were playing some video game, and Jeff yells out randomly, "Oh my God dude, you have to see this video... it's fucking HILARIOUS!!!"
So we pause the game and head over to the desk-top and Jeff pulls up this video:

This video is really, really, old, and even if you've never seen it, you may not think it was funny. But the first time I saw it I almost died laughing. I don't think I've ever laughed at anything as hard before or since that moment. I thought I was going to die from suffocation from not being able to catch my breath and tears were running down my face. But one thing was certain, I was hooked to this site. I remember a time when the website only updated once a week, every Friday, and I was actually anticipating what the new media would be. I kept coming here in my down time, just to kill 5 or ten minutes here and there. I noticed one day comments appeared under the media, and my initial reaction was that it was pointless. Why would I want to leave comments? Then, several months ago, I gave in and started a profile, and here I am today.
Obviously, that stupid little video has a lot of significance for me, but may mean very little to you. What was the video, picture or flash that first made you laugh, has a special significance to you, and made you start coming here?
