I fancy myself something of a beer connoisseur, and Im of the mind that the word Ale means Stronger than beer. If you ask me, Red Hook's ESB is about as light in flavor as I really care to go (If you're wondering, Arrogant Bastard Ale by the folks at Stone Brewery is my favorite). So when I saw Budweiser's American Ale on the rack tonight, I thought, "Aw hell, I'll give it a shot." Being a man who doesn't like Budweiser's other products, I felt it was only fair to give them a chance to redeem themselves.

I cracked open a bottle and smelled of it first, the fragrance was less than promising. I took a large pull from the bottle and did what I always do when trying a new brew, a few light swishes then swallowed it down. What did I experience? Not anything worth raving about, not in the positive sense at least. A boring, flavorless and lacking in any of the qualities befitting of the term "Ale". Basically, it's just a bit stronger than the classic Budweiser, it delivers only on one expectation... My distaste for boring beer. So, if you are as I am, and enjoy ALE, spend those hard earned dollars on something worth while. If however, you're a Bud enthusiast and you're feeling "adventurous", then feel free to try it with no worry about wether or not your girlish palet will be spoiled. No offense.
