This is a quick response to police work not being very dangerous.  I hate drawing attention to the author of that blog, but sometimes these annoying things are necessary.  The author got his statistics from Money Magazine.  Well, good for him, he checked one source and suddenly he is the resident expert on dangerous jobs and statistics.  Well, I check multiple recourses for my statistics, and I do not disagree that the jobs he listed are dangerous, I am sure they are.  The purpose here is to show the folly of his blog by an attempt to claim that police work is not very dangerous.  If this individual was not blinded by such ignorant, immature and unexplained hatred towards police, then maybe he would be taken more seriously.  But, this individual insists on bad mouthing the police, which is fine, because we cannot please everyone all the time.  But, I felt compelled to relate some accurate and more researched statistics of my own.

In 1792 the City of Boston was the first city in the US to have sworn police officers.  There was one reported police line of duty death that year.  Since 1792 there have been 17,535 police line of duty deaths.

The 1970’s saw more police officers killed in the line of duty than any other decade.  2,260 officers were killed in the line of duty. That was an average of 226 each year.  1974 saw the most officers killed at 275.

Between 1976 – 1998 there have been 1,800 officers killed in the line of duty.

September 11, 2001 had more police officers killed on that day than any other day in the history of the US; 72.

An average of 56,000 police officers each year are assaulted, with 16,000 reported injuries.

1949 was the last year less than 100 police officers were killed in the line of duty.

2004: 161 Officers killed

2005: 156 Officers killed

2006: 151 Officers killed

2007: 180 Officers killed

2008:   80 Officers killed

Well, Mr. Cop Hater, law enforcement may not be as dangerous as other professions, I will grant you that, and I am not here looking for sympathy from anybody at all.  I became a police officer knowing what dangers existed and I would not trade this job for any other in the world.  I am not ashamed or embarrassed to be a police officer.  But, I am embarrassed for you with your constant spewing of hatred and outright lack of respect for anything decent.  You are the type of person that pisses off cops and turns many of us into the stereo typed pricks that the general public perceives us to be.  It is very tiresome to have to deal with arrogant, self righteous, assholes such as yourself on a daily basis.
