Snippy Translation

So, I need a vacation in the worst way.  I think the closest I'm going to come to an island paradise any time soon is soaking in a bath with kids running amuck while I look at travel brochures.  So that's exactly what I was doing.  I sat in a bath while Natalie and Meadow shredded a roll of TP into confetti and read about the luxurious hotels in Mexico.

These resorts have got their marketing down pat.  They know how to appeal to American sensibilities.  All the adds show food, a huge bed, and two people on a beach, seemingly blissful.  All the hotels make you want to grab a toothbrush and a bathing suit and catch the next plane to paradise.  Of course, to evey rule there is an exception.  This hotel looked opulent and beautiful, promised first class cuisine, romantic beaches, etc.  Still, I don't think we'll be going there. The hotel is called UNIK.  Yes unik.  The same as the american word for castrated man.

I think they were banking on the fact that the vowel sound i in spanish is "ee", making this the Hotel Unique, not unic.  This is why all Mexican hotel chains should keep at least one American on staff, even if he's just the janitor, just to run this sort of shit by him.

As if that isn't bad enough, Hotel UNIK ran their ad directly across from a travel insurance ad with the slogan, "Don't let your vacation get cut short!"
