My friend and I were watching the Olympics the other night. He asked me why a marathon is 26.2 miles. So i looked it up.
The story behind why a marathon is 26.2 miles is based on a Greek story. The story goes back to the reign of the Greeks and Persians. When the Persians entered Greece a Greek saw them and ran to the City of Marathon. This particular Greek ran 26.2 miles without stopping. When he arrived in Marathon he stopped by the first high government official and said, "The Persian are coming!"
After he said this, he fell over and died!
Great story of a man with alot of heart and loyalty!
And great famous last words!
thanks for reading.
