You aren't as cool as you think you are

Nowerdays everyone wants to be cool. People have wanted to be cool since the 30's but recently it has come to the point where literally everyone is obsessed with the concept. In my humble opinion it is your actions, attitude, sense of humor and general demeanor that make you truly cool. but recently it has become very much an externally recognized trait. True coolness comes from within. Pedophiles are not cool, just imagine asking Arthur Fonzarelli if pedophiles are cool and imagine his reaction. Yet if you saw a pedophile walking down the street dressed in this seasons most fashionable clothes and adorned in tattoos, piercings and accessories you would assume he/she was cool.

Internal coolness is a lot harder to fake than external coolness. The same can be said for beauty. This is why i think that if you truly want to be cool you should focus on your personality before concentrating on the way you appear to people at a glance. Fashion is fickle where as personality is constant. I myself would seem to others as a very uncool individual if you were to analyze the way I am externally. I pop the collars on my polo shirts, I have short hair with very little style to it, i'm not in a band, i'm not a great artist and I don't have any tattoos or piercings. I like to think that my appearance to others and the impression I give them externally is merely a diversionary tactic to really wow people with my internally cool traits.

Conformity isn't cool. That is why people divide into groups in high school and subdivide into even more abstract groups after high school. Conformity is impossible to escape no matter how hard you try. No matter what music you prefer or your interests or the idea of how you want to look, you are sharing the same views as many other people. You then inadvertently become part of a clique or collective of like minded individuals and conform to their idea of what is cool. Are the things you consider cool actually cool? i think it goes without saying that all internal cool traits are considered cool by everyone. So please don't think if you have little to no personality and wish to come across as cool that wearing a specific type/brand of clothing, having your hair in a certain way or getting a tattoo/piercing will effect peoples view of you at all because it wont. I'm not knocking fashion at all, i'm merely knocking people who compensate for their lack of cool by "peacocking".
