A gentleman walked into a jewelry store one Friday evening with a beautiful young woman at his side. He told the jeweler he was looking for a special birthday present for his new girlfriend. The jeweler looked through his stock and brought out a beautiful $40,000 diamond ring.
The young lady's eyes sparkled, and her whole body trembled with excitement. Seeing this, the gentleman said, "I'll write you a check right now, and when it clears on Monday I'll be back to pick it up."
On Monday the jeweler called the man and said, "Your check bounced!"
