Electric Daisy Carnival EDC ritualistically attracts hundreds of thousands of people to partake in mind melting visuals and ear shattering bass drops. In 2014, the festival brought more than 400,000 people to Las Vegas for the three-day event.

Battle of the Oranges Held in Ivrea, Italy, the battle of the oranges is the largest food fight in Italy. Consisting of 9 ‘teams’ that violently pummel each other with oranges for victory, the fight lasts 3 days in February.

Bay to Breakers Bay to Breakers is an annual footrace held in San Francisco, California on the third Sunday of May. However, this is not your typical running event, with numerous costumes, alcoholic beverages, and public nudity, the race has turned into more of a mobile frat party, the largest of it’s kind.

Boryeong Mud Festival Originally used to promote the benefits of mud cosmetics, the two-week Boryeong Mud festival has grown exponentially, expecting 2.2 million visitors a year. The most popular days of the festival tend to fall on the second weekend of July.

Burning Man Burning man is a week-long event located in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. What once began as a bonfire ritual has now exploded into an experimental and spiritual experience for all those who attend. Burning man is said to signify radical self-expressionism, art, community, and self-reliance. Over 65,000 people attended the event in 2014 and the number grows larger every year.

Coachella As one of the most popular music and art festivals in the United States, Coachella has only grown in numbers since its birth in 1999. Over 90,000 people attended the event in 2014 and more are expected for this years event.

Distortion This mobile festival in Copenhagen takes place during the first week of June and gathers over 100,000 people a day. Moving locations everyday, Distortion is one of the most popular multi-location festival in Europe.

Full Moon Party An all night party on Ko Pha Ngan in Thailand, the Full Moon Party takes place the night before every full moon. The celebration draws between 5,000 – 30,000 travelers every full moon evening as the bars along the beach offer their service until sunrise.

Glastonbury Festival Glastonbury is the largest greenfield festival in the world, residing in Pilton, Somerset, England, drawing a crowd over 175,000 a year.

Holi An ancient Hindu festival also known as the festival of colors. It is celebrated on the vernal equinox in March. The festival is mostly celebrated in India, Nepal, and other regions with high populations of Hindu peoples. Thousands of participants gather to embrace the Holi traditions of love, laughter, music, food, and drink.

Queen’s Day On April 27, to celebrate the Queen of the Netherlands birth, Amsterdam is colored orange as people fill the streets and canals. Over a million party goers come to join in on the event, celebrating into the night.

Rio Carnaval The Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro is the largest carnival in the world and takes place before Lent. Over 2 million people a day fill the streets to partake in the festival events and parades. Music, drinks, and traditional foods are consumed by the thousands as festival goers samba their way through the city streets.

Most widely known for it’s ‘running of the bulls’ tradition, San Fermin is one of the oldest celebrated festivals to date. First documented in the 14th century, San Fermin was moved to Pamplona, Spain in 1591 where it has remained ever since. Over a million people assemble in Pamplona between July 6 and July 14 to participate in the festival.

European festivals continue the list with Denmark’s Roskilde. The festival usually presents over 180 shows to 130,000 people over it’s four-day span in July.

Originally held in Brazil, Rock in Rio expanded and spread to five different locations, including Las Vegas for 2015. The festival draws between 700,000 and 1 million people per outing, growing exponentially every year.

Ultra Music Festival UMF is held in downtown Miami, Florida every year in March. What was once a one-day electronic music festival has grown to a three-day affair, bringing over 300,000 bass-heads to the beaches of Miami every year.

Oktoberfest Over 6 million people head to Munich, Germany every year to partake in the 16-day event known as Oktoberfest. Celebrated as the world’s largest festival, Oktoberfest has lasted for over 100 years and only grows in popularity as numerous cities around the world hold their own celebrations modeled after the original event.
