Predicting the future is both a fun endeavor and a profitable business model. Science fiction writers have been at it for decades, and with decent success, I might add, and tech companies are always introducing what they think the next big thing will be. But it's impossible to be right all the time, so here is a list of things that just about everybody predicted wrong. 

Technology and the internet is something nobody could have predicted even just 30 to 40 years ago. The internet has connected the world through instantaneous communication, but also become a source of many modern problems. The digitalization of media has produced a misinformation wildfire, and it's often hard to tell what's real and what isn't. Scams, viruses, and explicit content make up a much larger percentage of the internet than anyone could have originally predicted. 

But while technology continues to drive society, people also keep getting it wrong. 3D TVs were the next big thing until they weren't, and VR has yet to take off beyond a niche following the way many expected. Does anyone think the new Apple Vision Pro is actually going to stay relevant?
