Church is the one place you should never laugh. And that rule makes it so ridiculously easy to laugh there, specifically. The quiet, slightly tense, holy atmosphere means that if one thing goes wrong, or just looks weird, it’s impossible to keep from cackling in the house of God.

Today, we’re finally giving you permission to laugh at some things that were blessed by the Holy Father. You probably shouldn’t laugh - but you probably will. Churches are full of weird images and moments that are objectively hilarious. There are statues that look completely cartoony and wrong, baptisms that look more like a strange waterpark chaperoned by an old man, and so many weird interpretations of Jesus in art through the millennia.
