The Lightning Witch? - Something a little shocking happened in the Democratic Republic of Congo, when a lightning strike killed all 11 members of one soccer team while leaving the opposing team in the match untouched...This created a lot of controversy and conspiracy theories, as expected, with some even claiming that witchcraft was involved - Spooky! -

Atomic Snow - Snow storms are just plain annoying, but what is amazing is that a single snowstorm can drop up to 40 million tons of snow, which carries the energy equivalent to 120 atom bombs - Yikes! We're just thankful that snow can be a lot less destructive than an atom bomb... -

Struck by Lightning! - Many people would have a fear of getting struck by lightning and we don't blame them! but what they may find slightly comforting is the fact that 9 out of 10 lightning strike victims survive. While that certainly doesn't give you an excuse to go outside during a storm with an umbrella, like this man, it still provides an amazing weather fact! -

Fastest Winds Ever! - The fastest winds recorded on Earth are not surprisingly the ones moving around inside the funnel of a tornado. Speeds of up to 300 mph have been recorded! If we were this guy in the photograph, we certainly wouldn't be standing there like that! Looks like it is time to run in the other direction, buddy... -

One Large Ice Cube! - It may be a little hard to imagine, but did you know that in 1932 the United States had a winter so cold that even Niagara falls froze completely solid?! Imagine the ice skating and snowboarding opportunities that would create...Whether or not it will happen again is anyone's guess. -

Raining Happiness? - Rain can be both a blessing and a hindrance, but did you know that it contains the essential vitamin B12? B12 plays a key role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system, and for the formation of healthy blood cells. So, next time it begins to rain, why not soak some of it up? -

The Dust Bowl - Where is the driest place on earth, you ask? Look no further than Antofagasta in Chile! The place is so dry due to receiving less than 0.1mm of rainfall per year. And if you think that's bad, some years Antofagasta doesn't receive any rainfall whatsoever! -

Pine Cone Forecast - Forget the weather bureau - Did you know that you can also forecast whether it is going to rain or not by looking at a...pine cone?! Apparently the scales on the pine cone will close if rain is on the way. Fascinating, right? The Cumulonimbus - It certainly is one long word, but cumulonimbus refers to the largest variety of cloud. These clouds might seem pretty big in the sky, but what you didn't know is that they can reach amazing heights of up to 6 miles! If that was not impressive enough, these clouds also hold up to half a million tons of water. -

It may not be storming where you are now, but did you know that at any particular time, there are approximately 1,800 thunderstorms occurring in the Earth's atmosphere? Crazy! It seems like the poor old Earth never gets a break from the flashes of lightning and the booms of thunder... -

Hail of Death - Small hailstorms may seem like a bit of harmless entertainment, especially for young kids. However, in 1986 on 14 April, the largest and most destructive hailstorm occurred, taking place in Bangladesh. Each piece of hail weighed around 2.25lbs, and understandably, caused mass destruction including the loss of 92 lives. -

The Life of a Tornado - Did you know that tornadoes have life spans too, just like people, animals and plants? It may surprise you to find out that the average life span of a tornado is only less than 15 minutes! It's quite disturbing to see the amount of destruction that can be done by one of these things in less than 15 minutes though... -

Tablespoon of Fog - You probably already knew that fog was made up of tiny droplets of water, but what you may be surprised to find out is that these droplets are so incredibly small, it would take seven thousand million of them to make a single tablespoonful of water! Really puts it into perspective, doesn't it?
