Long after soldiers fall, the only things that remain are the weapons and armor they once carried. As trees now grow in these tragically enriched environments, they swallow up the weapons left behind. -

In 1970s Cambodia the Khmer Rouge killed an estimated 3 million of its citizens, and the forest collected evidence of this violence. Some larger weapons became a permanent part of the trees... -

...while smaller items, like bullets, work their way through the tree, as resin forces them out. There is something somberly interesting about this juxtaposition between war and nature. -

The resin from these gamboge trees is coveted the world over and used to make the beautiful saffron-yellow dye with which Buddhist monks color their robes. -

Bullets stuck in the trees were carried by this resin and collected with the Gamboge. Perhaps this is nature giving artists a chance to make something beautiful out of something very ugly... -

Or perhaps it's nature's way of telling us that she's gonna do what she's gonna do no matter what silly games we play with these deadly toys.
