      • I hope this doesn't seem insensitive to other faiths, but it does seem like making money should not be equated with piety, and that because others cannot they live in sin. That is ridiculous.

      • I completely understand where you are coming from and what you are saying, but the problem I have is in the coldness that is associated with defining humanity in that way. I just potential has more importance than that, there isn't a line to be drawn in such a case. Unfertilized egg, sperm, totally different. But a fertilized egg, untampered with, will become a human being (unless some other process naturally interrupts this of course). I guess the key is then, well, yes it would go on to do that, but not without the mother. So I guess I have to reiterate that this potential for life should have some sort of basic rights or protection. Maybe I am wrong, because you could say that these rights would be less than a current human's rights, and we cannot exactly define the fertilized egg as a person in the sense that the mother is. But man, that is some cold logic that needs to be handled and understood carefully. Good discussion Sir.

I'd choose the option that adds to life rather than the one that takes it away. I cannot justify the loss of a person whom we know nothing about.

      • Lol it does, if you happen to be fapping over an egg. Otherwise, no, it does not have potential in the same sense a fertilized egg has potential, and on that point you are very wrong. But, your second point is more valid. Now, this is a special case that is generally used to combat the anti-abortionists. Is this where most abortions come from? I highly doubt it, but I'd like you to prove me wrong. But lets move onwards, lets say it is ok to abort within these circumstances; that means abortion would be then ONLY reserved for these circumstances, and should not be allowed in any other. I never hear this argument following the one you just put out, yet that seems to be the logical next conclusion that you blatantly ignore. But even then, I see this as life. Life that, while a burden on the mother by no fault of her own, that does not necessarily deserve to be saddled with the guilt and shame of the act.
