Let’s Figure Out What the Hell Luigi Mangione Is Talking About in This Clip
Let the conspiracy theories begin!
After the alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO shooter was caught, the internet became filled with speculation about what this person’s exact motivations were for their actions. Of course, pretty much everyone agreed that “anger at the healthcare industry” must have played a role, but no one was quite sure how much of a role it played, or if the man had any other motivations for his actions.
Naturally, there were also a lot of other questions that arose to drive conspiracy theorists like myself insane — you’re telling me he was eating at a McDonald’s while carrying all his fake IDs, a bunch of cash *and* the murder weapon? He thought through everything else but didn’t ditch that stuff? And the McDonald’s worker recognized him despite us only having a single photo of his full face? What about the eyebrow growth?!? But accepting all of this information at face value, the resources we have to figure out what he’s really all about are limited.
One piece of information is his alleged manifesto, recently released in full by journalist Ken Klippenstein. Another is this video we have of him being taken to a courthouse before his hearing.
In the video, he can be heard yelling something like, “This is clearly unjust, and an insult to the intelligence of the American people and their lived experience!”
Now, is he saying that the punishment for his actions is unjust? Or that he’s innocent? Or that there’s someone else pulling the strings? I don’t know, but if there are any conspiracy theorists out there who want to drive themselves insane watching this video over and over, be my guest.
