There are many reasons a tree can fill with water. It could have taken on heavy rainfall, it could have died or the tree itself might just have poor drainage.

When this happens, it becomes possible to get water out of the tree. It can be done by cutting a hole in the side, or by removing one of the branches. When you do so, the water will come spraying out, looking something like this.
